Role
Azure Cloud Infrastructure Architect (Full-Time)
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Azure Cloud Infrastructure Architect to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of the cloud infrastructure for a Microsoft Fabric-based data lakehouse solution. The data lakehouse will serve as the backbone of advanced data analytics, business intelligence, and operational reporting for a leading water utilities company in the Philippines.
In this strategic role, you will design and architect the cloud infrastructure for the lakehouse, ensuring that it meets scalability, performance, security, and regulatory compliance requirements specific to the water utilities sector. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, cloud architects, DevOps teams, and data governance experts, to deliver a robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement the cloud infrastructure for the Microsoft Fabric-based data lakehouse, ensuring it supports the entire data pipeline from data ingestion to analytics and reporting.
- Collaborate with data engineers and cloud architects to build an architecture that is scalable, flexible, and high-performing, meeting both current and future business needs.
- Architect cloud resources using Azure services such as Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Define best practices and standards for the management of cloud resources and data workflows, ensuring they are consistent with security, compliance, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Philippine Data Privacy Act).
- Optimize the architecture for cost efficiency, performance, and scalability, focusing on maximizing the benefits of Azure cloud infrastructure.
- Oversee the design of network architecture, ensuring secure, reliable, and fast data transfers across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
- Collaborate with the security team to implement cloud security best practices, ensuring that sensitive data within the lakehouse is protected and compliant with industry regulations.
- Lead cloud migration efforts, ensuring smooth transitions of legacy on-premise data systems to the cloud environment while maintaining business continuity.
- Develop and enforce monitoring, logging, and alerting strategies to ensure cloud resources are performing optimally and to track any anomalies or issues that may arise.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior cloud engineers and other team members on cloud best practices, architecture principles, and industry trends.
- Document the infrastructure architecture, including design diagrams, implementation guidelines, and operational procedures, ensuring knowledge sharing and effective handover.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in cloud technologies, Microsoft Azure, and data architecture, ensuring continuous improvement and integration of new capabilities.
- Work closely with project managers and business analysts to align the cloud infrastructure with the company’s goals and business requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with a focus on Azure cloud infrastructure and data engineering solutions.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and related technologies.
- Strong experience in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud architectures.
- Expertise in cloud security best practices, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., Philippine Data Privacy Act) and industry standards.
- Proven experience in designing and managing hybrid cloud architectures, including cloud-to-on-premise integrations.
- In-depth understanding of data lakes, data lakehouses, and big data processing frameworks in the cloud environment.
- Experience with networking and connectivity in cloud environments, including Azure Virtual Network (VNet), ExpressRoute, VPN, and other cloud networking solutions.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform, ARM Templates, or Azure Bicep for automating cloud resource provisioning.
- Proficiency in cost management and optimization strategies within Azure, focusing on cloud cost governance and resource scaling.
- Strong knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting services within Azure (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights).
- Experience in cloud migration projects, particularly in moving on-premise data solutions to the cloud.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or other Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Security Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer).
- Experience with data governance frameworks and metadata management tools, particularly in a highly regulated industry like utilities.
- Experience working with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for automating deployment and monitoring of cloud resources.
- Familiarity with big data tools like Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Databricks within an Azure cloud environment.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and security standards relevant to the water utilities sector and critical infrastructure.
- Experience working on water utilities or similar public utility systems, especially with data-related initiatives for regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
