As an Oracle Database Architect, you will lead the assessment of the Oracle database layer within a legacy technology stack. You will evaluate performance, stability, architectural constraints, and technical debt, contributing to an implementation ready optimisation roadmap. Your work will support cross layer findings and strengthen the technical foundation needed for improvement planning.
What You’ll Do and How You’ll Succeed
Database Assessment
- Analyse SQL workloads, locking and contention issues, indexing, input or output bottlenecks, and schema health.
- Identify cross layer root causes and opportunities for optimisation.
Architecture Baseline Support
- Review application to database touchpoints, cross schema dependencies, and data access patterns.
- Contribute to current state architecture documentation and evidence logs.
Technical Debt Analysis
- Identify performance, structural, and maintainability risks related to Oracle 10g and tightly coupled legacy designs.
- Provide impact assessments and cost of inaction summaries.
Optimisation Recommendations
- Develop actionable recommendations that include near term tuning, operational enhancements, and low risk fixes.
- Propose moderate remediation paths such as database upgrades and compatibility preserving migration approaches.
- Provide effort estimates, dependencies, risks, and rollback considerations.
Operational and Reliability Review
- Assess backup and recovery practices, including RMAN validation.
- Evaluate capacity monitoring, patch and change management, and production uptime processes.
