Telecom Test Engineer (SIM & Device Certification)

The Opportunity. 

The SIM & Device Test Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and compliance of SIM cards and mobile devices within the organization’s network ecosystem. This role involves executing SIM Type Approval (TA), batch testing, aftersales troubleshooting, and R&S parametric testing for mobile devices. The position is highly technical and requires hands-on experience with mobile/wireless technologies, compliance standards, and testing methodologies. 

The engineer will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and field operations to ensure timely resolution of SIM-related issues, effective device validation, and smooth rollout of SIMs and mobile devices to market. 

The Role. 

  • Conduct SIM Type Approval (TA), batch testing, and aftersales testing to ensure compliance with quality and industry standards. 
  • Perform R&S parametric testing of mobile devices to support type approval and certification processes. 
  • Monitor and execute all SIM-related testing requests for both BAU and project requirements. 
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve SIM-related issues (e.g., no signal, expired, missing/defective, rejected SIMs). 
  • Ensure SIMs and eSIMs (Testbed/Prod) remain future-ready, compliant, and aligned with latest trends such as 5G readiness and eSIM capability. 
  • Prepare test cases, scenarios, and scripts to evaluate functionality, performance, and interoperability. 
  • Ensure adherence to SLA requirements: 
    • 5-day SLA per SIM type tested. 
    • 1-day SLA per 30 SIMs batch tested. 
    • 5-day KPI testing for device validation. 
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports for SIM batch testing and R&S testing activities. 
  • Manage escalations and resolution of SIM- and device-related issues, coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders. 
  • Support compliance and regulatory testing requirements to ensure all SIMs and devices meet industry standards. 
  • Contribute to process improvements, documentation, and dashboard maintenance for SIM and device testing. 
  • Stay updated with evolving telecommunications standards (GSM, LTE, 5G, SIM Toolkit, OTA updates, etc.). 

The Expertise. 

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mobile/wireless technologies (GSM, LTE, 5G). 
  • Understanding of SIM card technologies: SIM Application Toolkit (SAT), SIM Toolkit (STK), OTA updates. 
  • Familiarity with mobile devices (Android, iOS, HarmonyOS) and network architectures. 
  • Proficiency in SIM and device testing methodologies, test case execution, and quality assurance practices. 
  • Hands-on experience with R&S (Rohde & Schwarz) parametric testing tools or similar. 
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and defect identification. 
  • Knowledge of compliance standards and regulatory requirements for SIMs and mobile devices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 
  • 2–5 years of experience in SIM testing, telecom device testing, or quality assurance within the telecommunications industry. 
  • Hands-on experience with SIM TA, batch testing, and R&S or equivalent parametric testing tools. 
  • Familiarity with telecom QA processes and vendor management is preferred. 
  • Relevant certifications in telecommunications, QA, or mobile testing are a plus.
