Unix Administrator

Location: Bangalore, India

As a Unix Administrator, you will manage and administer RHEL infrastructure across the APAC region. You will work closely with Infrastructure, Application, Network, and Security teams to ensure the stability, performance, and security of Linux platforms, while driving automation and continuous improvement in system operations. 

What You’ll Do and How You’ll Succeed

System Administration & Maintenance 

  • Administer and maintain Linux servers to ensure stability and availability. 
  • Provide day-to-day systems operations and administration, including 24×7 standby support. 
  • Fulfill service requests and change requests with accuracy and timeliness. 

Installation, Configuration & Migration 

  • Plan and execute installation, configuration, and migration of operating systems, hardware, and software. 
  • Manage VMware environments and clustering using Pacemaker. 

Troubleshooting & Support 

  • Investigate and resolve incidents and system problems, escalating to vendors when required. 
  • Provide technical support and advice for projects, ensuring alignment with infrastructure standards. 

Preventive Maintenance & Optimisation 

  • Plan and perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including OS patching, upgrades, and hardening. 
  • Deliver system performance tuning, optimisation, and capacity planning. 
  • Design and implement infrastructure improvements to enhance security, stability, performance, and efficiency. 

Automation & Documentation 

  • Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and shell scripts to automate system management tasks. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation and configuration records to support operational excellence. 

Collaboration 

  • Partner with multi-disciplinary teams and vendors to deliver solutions effectively. 

We’d Love to Hear From You If…

Experience

  • You have 8+ years of relevant experience as a Unix Administrator. 
  • You have worked collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams in both project and operational environments. 

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge and experience in Linux administration and maintenance. 
  • Background in Unix technologies including High Availability and virtualisation. 
  • Experience with clustering (Pacemaker), VMware, and storage administration/SAN technologies. 
  • Familiarity with anti-virus implementation in RHEL. 
  • Understanding of ITSM, ITIL, or other relevant frameworks is an advantage.  

Ways of Working

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Strong ability to identify and improve performance measurement and reporting processes in large organisations. 
  • Skilled in writing clear and concise business English for different audiences. 
  • Able to handle confidential information with tact and sensitivity.
